FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — NFL owners voted to play the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans, the first time the championship will be played there since Hurricane Katrina shredded parts of the Louisiana Superdome. The hurricane caused 1,600 deaths and devastated the Gulf Coast.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University tied for third place in the 2008-09 Dixon Trophy competition to determine the top all-around athletic program in the PSAC.SRU, the 2007-08 winner, shared third place with Lock Haven behind champion California (Pa.) and runner-up Shippensburg. Cal had 161 points, Shippensburg 158 and The Rock and Lock Haven 147 each.The Rock women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams both claimed PSAC championships while the women's and men's cross country teams placed second to help spark the school.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University head track and field coach John Papa has been named the Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year and assistant coach Dave Labor the Assistant Coach of the Year, as announced by the U.S, Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tuesday.It marks the second consecutive year the duo has swept the women's top regional honors.Papa earned the honor after guiding the SRU women's team to its fourth consecutive PSAC championship, a top regional ranking and fifth-place finish in the Division II national poll.
