New jail to host fundraiser
People can donate to a worthy cause and find out what it's like to spend a night in prison at the same time.
Butler County on June 5 will hold a Slumber in the Slammer fundraiser to benefit four community organizations.
For a $20 donation, a person can stay overnight in the new prison. Another $1 gets the fake felon a mug shot.
Inmates are fingerprinted, receive prison-stripes and souvenir T-shirts.
Teen youth groups are welcome with adult supervision.
The county commissioners and Warden Rich Gigliotti will speak at 7:30 p.m.
The participants will be discharged 8 a.m. June 6. A continental breakfast will be served from 6 to 8 a.m.
For inmates wanting an early release, an additional $10 gets them out at 11 p.m. June 5.
From 8 p.m. to midnight June 5, there will be tours, demonstrations, food, music, games and drawings for the overnight inmates.
Proceeds from the event will benefit county Children and Youth Services, the Mental Health Association in Butler County, the United Way of Butler County and VOICe.
Alcohol, drugs, weapons and pets are prohibited from the building.
Reservations are required.
Tickets are available at each of the organizations' offices, by calling the United Way at 724-285-4883 or by e-mailing impact@butlerunitedway.org.
