LBJ vs. MJ
After LeBron James hit a dramatic, buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a win over the Orlando Magic in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, NBA fans were whipped into a frenzy.
And a heated debate began anew: LBJ or MJ.
With all due respect to Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and even Kobe Bryant, let us compare James and Jordan in a true test of greatness.
-- Better jersey number. LBJ: 23. MJ: 23 and 45. Advantage: MJ. He wore two uniform numbers, although 45 for just a short time. Still, until LBJ decides to wear No. 75 or something, MJ gets the nod.
-- Better commercial. LBJ: The LeBrons. MJ: HORSE vs. Larry Bird. Advantage: LBJ. Nothing can top LBJ as a bitter old man or a cool cat from the 70s.
-- Better middle name. LBJ: Raymone. MJ: Jeffrey. Advantage: LBJ. Everybody loves Raymone.
-- Better sidekick. LBJ: Zydrunas Ilgauskas. MJ: Scottie Pippen. Advantage: MJ. Ilgauskas is good at breaking his foot. Pippen was good at breaking down the defense. Pippen was the perfect Robin to Jordan's Batman. Z is the perfect Barney Fife to James' Andy Taylor.
-- Better last-second shot. LBJ: Game-winner vs. Orlando. MJ: Game-winner vs. Cleveland or Utah or Georgetown — you get the picture. Advantage: MJ. Until LeBron wins about 12 more meaningful games with last-second shots, MJ wins.
Final verdict: MJ. Jordan is still the best, although James is closing fast. Check back in about 10 years for the final answer.
