Herbert A. Jones

Jones

Herbert A. "Herb" Jones passed away peacefully Friday at the Overlook Nursing Home in New Wilmington.

He was born June 6, 1915, the son of Herbert A. and Margaret Johannah (Burns) Jones in Butler.

He was a graduate of Butler High School and the International Correspondence School.

During the late years of the Depression, he hitchhiked to visit his sister in Ellwood, Ind. After schooling, he became in charge of hiring at the Container Corp.

In 1941, he married his sweetheart Mary Ruth (Schultis) after being introduced to her at a Knights of Columbus dance by his future brother-in-law, Clarence Schott.

He had a natural talent for photography and learned film development from a friend. He was also lucky to have won a box camera in a raffle. He left his position as office manager at Coca Cola in Butler and in 1948, opened the Camera Center on East Washington Street in New Castle.

He soon after opened H.A. Jones Studio and was a portrait, commercial and wedding photographer in New Castle for more than 50 years. He sometimes surprised clients by revealing he had taken their parents wedding photos.

He was an avid sportsman his entire life and belonged to the Grove City Hunting and Fishing Club. In the formative years of the New Castle Camera Club, its meetings were at the Camera Center.

A deeply religious man, he became a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary's Church.

In his more senior years, he was a counselor on the Bereavement Committee at St. Camillus Parish. He also was a member of the New Castle Lion's Club. His life was defined by his faith, his great love for his Ruthie, "His Dutchess," and by family loyalty, unwavering determination and generosity to all.

Ever open to the next challenge, his life quotation would have to be: "There is nothing as permanent as change."

He was an inspiration to his family and will be deeply missed for his ready smile and very polite and articulate nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Dupont; his loving wife, Ruth; and his youngest son, David T. Jones.

Surviving are two sons, Herbert A. (Carroll) of Rochester, N.Y., and Robert V. (Dennis McTigue) of Naples, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Crescentia Janovick (Michael) of New Castle; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family gives special thanks to Ms. Amy Lamb for her loving care and attention while he was at the Overlook Nursing Home.

We are proud and thankful to have known and shared our parent's love and guidance.
