John L. Josephs

John L. Josephs, 91, of Harrisburg passed away Sunday at Frey Village.

He was born in Butler, Oct. 31, 1917, to the late George and Agnes (Abbott) Josephs.

John retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years. He later worked for Pennsylvania Blue Shield.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European theater, and he was a Purple Heart recipient.

John was a founding member of the Butler County Postal Employees Credit Union, the Butler Midget Football Association and the Butler Cubs Athletic Association.

He was the scout master of Boy Scout Troop 13 of the Grace Lutheran Church, Butler. He also was the coach of the youth basketball team for the church. He was a member and officer of the Optimist Clubs of Colonial Park and Harrisburg, a member of the Harrisburg Stamp Club and the Pennsylvania Blue Shield golf and bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine L. (Ruhl) Josephs; two sons, John R. and his wife, Margarita, of Vienna, Va., and Steven R. of Harrisburg; a brother, Fred, of Las Vegas; brothers-in-law, Mark and Luke Ruhl; and a sister-in-law Carolyn Shay.

He is preceded in death by his siblings, Sadie Johns and Thelma, Daniel, Samuel, Michael and Ralph Josephs.

<B>JOSEPHS</B> — Viewing for John L. Josephs, who died Sunday, July 5, 2009, will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the <B>Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home</B>, 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Walter L. Hafer officiating. Private burial will be held Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania, 4813 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109 or to the Children's Miracle Network, Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.
