Bertha Lucille Lutz
Bertha Lucille Lutz, 89, of Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City.
Born May 17, 1920, in Plain Grove Township, she was the daughter of William Milo Cunningham and Elsie Estella Moore.
She married Wade McBride Lutz on Sept. 29, 1937.
She joined the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church in 1931 and has been an active member for 78 years. She recently was recognized at the church as being the oldest living member and longest serving member of the church. She enjoyed working in the church kitchen.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, baking, knitting and crocheting.
Mrs. Lutz was a homemaker. She previously had worked in the kitchen at the Village Inn of Harlansburg and in the cafeteria of East Lawrence Elementary School.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Wade M. Lutz of their home in Volant; a daughter and her husband, Ruth A. and Donald R. McFarland of New Wilmington; a son, Larry W. Lutz and his wife, Margaret A., of Volant; a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Donald Cunningham of Grove City; a sister, Mary Ina Bartoe of Vandergrift; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Howard Esli Cunningham and Carl Kenneth Cunningham.
<B>LUTZ</B> — Visitation for Bertha Lucille Lutz, who died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B> 1778 Perry Highway, Leesburg. The family also will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock. The Rev. Herbert Goetz, pastor of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the South Plain Grove Cemetery, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County.
