Glenn H. English Jr.
Glenn H. "Sting" English Jr., 80, of Evans City died Monday at his home surrounded by his family.
Born July 23, 1928, in Evans City, he was the son of the late Glenn H. and Viola E. (Rice) English.
Mr. English had been a very active member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Evans City for more than 60 years. He served on the church's consistory several times and volunteered much of his time to any work that needed completed at the church. He was known as the "Greeter" to his church family because he always made visitors feel welcome.
His children say he was the best dad in the world.
Mr. English also served his community as a Little League baseball coach and as a member of the school board when Seneca Valley High School was built.
He was a lifetime member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Evans City Lions Club, the Masonic Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM, and the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association. He served for four years as an Evans City councilman
He is survived by his wife, June (Lutz) English, whom he married Sept. 1, 1948; six children, Dr. Dennis English (Denise) of Turtle Creek, Thomas English (Carol) of Evans City, Patricia Morrissey (James) of Evans City, Cheryl Harancher (Kevin) of Evans City, Dr. David English (Vicky) of Evans City and Kimberly Halter (Andrew) of Cranberry Township; and a sister June Frenchik (William) of Evans City.
He also is survived by 13 grandchildren, Erin, Brittany, Heath, Derek, Kendra, Sean, Kelly, Tyler, Hanna, Ian, Gabrielle, Elijah and Isabella; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert English; and his sister, Lenora Miller.
