Rostyslaw Dowbenko, 82, of Gibsonia died Sunday.

Born Jan. 8, 1927, in the Ukraine, he was the son of the late Luka and Anna Kuchar.

He was the beloved husband of Kateryna (Reshetnyk) Dowbenko, whom he married Jan. 21, 1951; father of Uri (Barbara) Dowbenko; and grandfather of Tara and Valerie Dowbenko. He also is survived by a cousin, Olga Cherniavska; her daughter, Inna (Oleh) Holovatiuk; and her two children, Iryna and Andriy Holovatiuk.

Rostyslaw was a chemist for PPG Industries, holding more than 100 patents. He specialized in automotive paints and coatings science, and at one point, was in charge of all European research for the company.

<B>DOWBENKO</B> — The family of Rostyslaw Dowbenko, who died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.An Orthodox Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lyndora. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir Cemetery, Pleasant Hills.A parastas service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The family suggests donations to a charity of one's choice.Please add or view condolences at www.schellhaasfh.com.
