Variety of arts bloom at Saxonburg fest

A horse drawn buggy gives festivalgoers rides during last year's Saxonburg Festival of the Arts. This year's festival, the 24th such event, takes place Saturday and Sunday at venues downtown and in Roebling Park in Saxonburg.

SAXONBURG — A strolling clown, jazz music and a ventriloquist will dot the venues at the 24th Saxonburg Festival of the Arts planned for Saturday and Sunday on Main Street and in Roebling Park.

A 5K race/walk will kick off events at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Admission and parking are free. The event is sponsored by the Saxonburg Historical & Restoration Commission. For more information, call 724-352-3024.

Highlighting the festival will be the numerous craft exhibits, art, ikebana and photography exhibits, daily musical performances, a variety of food, a Kids Corner, and gas engine and antique tractor exhibits.

• 5K race & community walk, 8: a.m., Roebling Park• Hospitality center, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Roebling Park• Art, photo & Ikebana exhibits, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saxonburg Memorial Church, plus gas engines/antique tractor exhibits below the new church• "Kids Korner" children's crafts, noon to 3 p.m., Saxonburg Library grounds• Knoch Jazz Band, noon to 1 p.m., Roebling Park• "Jimbo the Clown" — strolling the town, 1 to 4 p.m.• Little German Band, 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Roebling Park• Helen Hammett — puppeteer/ventriloquist, 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m., old Saxonburg Memorial Church• New Orleans Riverside Jazz Band — strolling the town, 2 to 4 p.m.• Tady Bears Band with Jack Tady, 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., Roebling Park• Road Work Band, country music, 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., Roebling Park• Cross Country Band, variety all-era band, 5:45 to 7 p.m., Roebling Park
