PITTSBURGH — A Cranberry Township man will fill in as the Pittsburgh Penguins' public address announcer while the team's longtime announcer John Barbero recovers from a medical condition, the team has announced.

Ryan Mill, 37, will make his debut Tuesday when the Penguins open their preseason schedule against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:30 p.m. at the Mellon Arena.

Mill is a professional voice-over specialist who has worked for numerous local and national clients and has extensive radio experience.

It is not known how long Barbero will be out.

ARDMORE — For the second consecutive day, Nathan Smith, a member at St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora, and Peter Uihlein teamed up to capture a foursomes match to help the United States defeat Great Britain and Ireland 16Z\x-9½ in the 42nd annual Walker Cup at Merion Golf Club.Smith, who resides in the North Hills, and Uihlein, of Orlando, Fla., defeated Gavin Dear (Scone, Scotland) and Matt Haines (Chatham, England) for a 1-up victory Saturday.On Sunday, the duo downed Chris Paisley (Northumerland, England) and Dale Whitnell (London, England) 5 and 4.The win marked the United State's third consecutive Walker Cup crown, having also won in 2005 and 2007.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Ichiro Suzuki became the first player in major league history with at least 200 hits in nine straight seasons.The Seattle Mariners' right fielder set the mark with an infield single in the second inning of the nightcap of doubleheader against the Texas Rangers. In his second at-bat of the game, Suzuki beat out a slow roller to shortstop Elvis Andrus to break a tie with Willie Keeler, who had 200 hits in eight consecutive seasons starting in 1894.

LOS ANGELES — Jack Kramer, a tennis champion in the 1940s and '50s and a promoter of the sport for more 60 years, died at his home in Los Angeles, his family said. He was 88.Kramer died late Saturday from a soft tissue cancer that was diagnosed in July, according to his son Bob Kramer.Kramer won the Wimbledon men's singles title in 1947 and the men's U.S. Championships, the forerunner of the U.S. Open, in 1946 and '47.
