Florence Heeter Best

Florence Janice Heeter Best, 81, of Parker passed away surrounded by her family Saturday morning at the Parker Personal Care Home.

Janice went to be with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband and best friend, Barney, to whom she was married for 57 years.

Born at Parkers Landing, Nov. 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Edgar C. and Jenny Shoffner Heeter.

She was married Oct. 29, 1949, to Byron Jess "Barney" Best Sr., who preceded her in death May 12, 2007.

Janice attended Sligo High School.

In her earlier years, she worked at Kepples Grocery Store and at her father's Esso station and she sold Avon. She was a devoted homemaker.

She was a very active lifetime member of the First Church of God in Callensburg, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and junior church, was a member of the Willing Workers and also was a janitor.

Janice loved gardening, making floral arrangements and decorating Christmas card envelopes.

She and Barney enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Arizona.

Surviving are a son, Byron Jess "Jack" Best Jr. (Carol) of Callensburg; two daughters, Juanita "Peach" King (Roy) of Callensburg and Patricia Jan "Patti" Altman (Miles) of Shippenville; eight grandchildren, Melanie J. Best and her fiance, Chad Grieff, of Lyndora, Holly J. Terwilliger (Kline) of Parker, Corey C. King and his fiancee, Mandy, of Callensburg, Daphne J. Vogle (Bryan) of Sligo, Mindy J. Nemet (Jeff) of Clintonville, Patience J. Best of Harrisville, Kali S. King of Callensburg and Justin J. Best of Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio Texas; three step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Randolph (Allen) of Erie, Jeremy Ramsey (Heather) of Montoursville and Jonathan Ramsey (Ann) of Virginia; nine great-grandchildren a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Edgar C. "Sonny" Heeter (Shirley) of Parker and Martin A. Heeter (Joann) of Arizona; a sister, Jesse Bailey (Ray) of Parker; two sisters-in-law, Kaye Heeter and Ruby Harkless, both of Callensburg; a special aunt, Florence "Sis" Chambers of Bradford; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Heeter.

<B>BEST</B> — Friends of Florence Janice Heeter Best, who died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, Wayne Street, Parker. Visitation also will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Callensburg Church of God, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Larry Rapp and Pastor Korona Say officiating.
