Kathy J. "Kassie" (Genovese) Barthel, 57, of Middlesex Township died Wednesday at her home.

Born Sept. 28, 1951, in Pittsburgh, she lived in Middlesex for the past 22 years and previously lived in the Valencia area.

A 1969 graduate of West Deer High School, she was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 15 years, Thomas C. Barthel; a daughter, Dana (Scott) Towne of Ross Township; a son, Shawn Bowman of Middlesex Township; and five grandchildren, Mitchell, Taylor, Jeremy and Alex Towne and Lavona Bowman.

She was preceded in death by her father, Felix Genovese; her mother, Jane E. (Dlugopolski) Wiegand; and her stepfather, James Wiegand.

<B>BARTHEL</B> — Friends of Kathy J. "Kassie" (Genovese) Barthel, who died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the <B>SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME</B>, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township, where a blessing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Robert Coyne will officiate.
