Alleged threats have 2 men facing charges

Separate incidents occurred Wednesday

CENTER TWP — One Butler County man remains jailed and another is free two days after they allegedly made violent threats in separate cases Wednesday, state police said.

John Paul Campbell, 38, of Winfield Township is accused of showing up at his estranged wife's home about 10:30 p.m. and ransacking the house on Riemer Road in Winfield Township.

Campbell, according to a police affidavit, "threatened to burn the place to the ground with all those inside."

Police said the defendant's wife, Jennifer Campbell, and her 19-year-old son were home at the time.

Jennifer Campbell told police that her husband also tried to choke her. She said she managed to get out of the house and drive away.

Police said that as troopers were searching for Campbell, he contacted his wife several times by cell phone "relating that if he goes to jail he will do his time and get out. When he gets out he will kill her."

District Judge Sue Haggerty shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday arraigned Campbell on charges of terroristic threats and harassment. He is in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Earlier Wednesday, Neil Kevin Otto, 46, of Center Township allegedly told a friend that he planned to shoot and kill his sister and brother-in law, Bridget Eyth and Raymond Eyth, at their home, according to court documents.

The defendant and the Eyths are neighbors on Route 38.

Otto made the threat, a police report said, "over property that he believes should be his, from his deceased father."

The friend notified the Eyths of the purported threat. The couple told police they were afraid for themselves and for their children.

Troopers later that night found the defendant, who was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats and harassment, and placed in the county prison.

He posted $10,000 bail Thursday and was released.
