Donald L. Spielman, 84, of 949B Hooker Road, Karns City, died at 5:52 p.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Home in Oil City. He had been a resident of the facility since Aug 20.

Born in Pittsburgh, Oct. 12, 1924, he was the son and stepson of the late Lillian and Herbert Spreuer.

He was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School.

Mr. Spielman was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and had served on a B-17 as a navigator bombardier. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Spielman was married Jan. 16, 1947, to the former Shirley Gray. She preceded him in death June 17, 1999.

He worked for the G.C. Murphy Co. for 38 years at numerous locations before retiring as the manager of the store in Hinton, W.Va.

Mr. Spielman was a member of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs and the American Legion.

Donald enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses Linda and Jack Mannion of Templeton, Delores Truhar of Oil City and Steve and Linda Spielman of Oil City; seven grandchildren, Heather Mannion, Lewis Jack Mannion, Neil Truhar, Brad Truhar, Brian Spielman, Amy Spielman and Eric Spielman; and seven great-grandchildren, Madison Lewis, Sean Mannion, Emily Mannion, Olivia Truhar, Mason Truhar, Mikayla Truhar and Hallie Spielman.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Spielman was preceded in death by his two brothers, Morgan "Bud" Spielman, who was killed in action during World War II, and George Spielman, and his son-in-law, Dennis Truhar.
