The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team captured the nine-team SRU Invite with a score of 36 Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground.

Jen Harpp led The Rock with a second-place finish with a time of 22 minutes, 31 seconds over the 6,000-meter course. Crystal Burnick placed sixth, Abby Michaelian ninth, Caitlin Hancox 11th and Jennifer Pace 12th to round out SRU's top five placewinners.

Penn State's club team placed second with 70 points and Wayne State (Mich.) was third with 83 points.

The Rock's Matt Grey was the overall winner with a time of 26:09 over the 8,000-meter course as the squad finished runner-up to Wayne State (Mich.) at the eight-team SRU Invite Saturday.Wayne State finished with 28 points and SRU was second with 45 and Penn State's club team followed with 69 points.Also for The Rock, Brian Ulrich finished in fifth place, Jason Leonard 10th, Kyle Botten 14th and George Walton 16th.

Despite nine kills and 14 digs from Kaylee Smith, The Rock fell to California (Pa.) 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 on Saturday.Anna Bixler and Kim Wilson both added 10 assists and three digs and Stacey Domer nine digs and three aces.The Vulcans improved to 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC. while SRU fell to 6-14, 2-6.

The Butler County Community College men's team placed second out of nine teams at the WPCC Tournament, which was held over the weekend at The Links in Spring Church.In the two-day tournament, the Pioneers finished with a score of 685, bettered only by Potomac State (635).Butler graduate Antonio Baroffio finished third out of 36 golfers overall with a 159 and Ethan Danner (Knoch) was eighth at 168. Both golfers were named to the All-Tournament team.Doug Aller fired a 178 and Bobby Marshall 180 for BC3. All four golfers will advance to the state tournament, the PCAA Championship, next Sunday through Tuesday at Penn National Golf Club in Chambersburg.
