Anna McLaughlin

Anna Scott McLaughlin, 90, of Annapolis, Md., formerly of Butler, died Sunday, Aug. 30, in Annapolis.

She was born April 20, 1919, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Robert A. Scott and Anna M. (King) Scott.

Anna and her husband, George, moved to Penn Township from Forest Hills in 1950. Anna lived in Penn Township until 2006 when she moved to Annapolis, Md., to be with her daughter, Anne. While living in Penn Township, they both loved being active in their community.

Anna was an active community leader in Penn Township. She was a co-founder of the Penn Township History Committee and co-authored "Penn Panorama — The First 200 Years." She was an original founding member of the Penn Township Woman's Club. She was awarded a 50-year service pin this year. Anna initiated Girl Scouts in Penn Township and was an active member of the auxiliary to the fire department.

Anna was a member of the Glade Run United Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon and was a member of the Missionary Society. Anna had also been a member of the Middlesex Presbyterian Church.

They attended and supported activities of social, government and education. They especially enjoyed athletic activities. They were fans of the Penn Township Golden Panthers, the Knoch Knights and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She began her banking career after high school by working as a teller while taking banking classes at the University of Pittsburgh. Then, she dedicated herself to raising a family, and when her children were grown, she returned to banking. She went on to become one of the first female bank managers and later vice presidents of a bank in Pennsylvania. In 1988, Anna retired from Northwest Savings Bank as the vice president and manager of the Southern Division. After retirement, she continued to serve on the advisory board for many years.

Anna is survived by four children, George T. McLaughlin of Sacramento, Calif., Anne S. McLaughlin of Annapolis, Rachael McLaughlin of Champion, Ohio, and Janet McLaughlin of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 plus years, George S. McLaughlin; a brother, Robert K. Scott; and a sister, Nancy Scott Drew.

<B>McLAUGHLIN</B> — Friends of Anna Scott McLaughlin, who died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the funeral home at with the Rev.
