Cynthia Guyer Vanetta, 68, of Jefferson Township, formerly of Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, passed away Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 16, 1941, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of Lester Franklin and Violet Adams Guyer.

She was a teacher for the Burrell School District.

She obtained her bachelor's, master's and post master's degrees in education, K-12. She was a certified elementary reading specialist and a Title I federal coordinator.

She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, the Pennsylvania Association of Public School Retirees, Square 1 Square Dance Club, the Pennsylvania Square and Round Dance Federation, St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pitt Alumni, Thiel Alumni, the National Education Association and the Pennsylvania Educators Association.

She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, reading, sewing and playing with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband Robert J. Vanetta Jr., whom she married Sept. 1, 1962; four grandchildren, Rachel, Vanessa, Bobby and Erin; her daughter, Kathleen (David) Vanetta McRandal of Jefferson Township; her son, Robert J. Vanetta III of Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County; her stepmother, Audrey Black Guyer of Tampa, Fla.; her siblings, Kathy (Frank) Vito of Lutz, Fla., Karen Woods of Tampa, Fla., Ian (Judy) Guyer of Salem, Ore., Lance Guyer of Westley Chapel, Fla., Leslie (Greg) Barnekoff of Buckeye, Ariz., and Gary (Robyn) Guyer of Portland, Ore.

Preceding her in death were her grandson, Anthony McRandal, who passed away in 2003; her father, Lester Guyer, who passed away in 2003; and her mother, Violet Guyer, who passed away in 1945.

<B>VANETTA</B> — Friends of Cynthia Guyer Vanetta, who died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Saxonburg with the Rev. Roger Keller officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Magee-Womens Foundation, 3339 Ward St., Pittsburgh, PA 15213, in memory of Cynthia Guyer Vanetta.Information also is available at www.foxfuneralhomeinc.com.
