W. William Uram

W. William Uram, 94, formerly of Penn Avenue in Lyndora, died Thursday at the Lowrie House in Butler.

He was born March 18, 1915, in Butler, a son of the late Wallace and Susan Prexta Uram.

Mr. Uram worked for 45 years at Butler Armco and retired from the shipping department in 1978. In 2008, he was honored at the Armco Veterans Picnic for having the longest continuous service at Armco.

As a young man during the Great Depression, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) in Virginia.

Mr. Uram was a lifelong avid golfer and golfed into his 80s. He was a former member of the Armco Country Club and the Highfield Golf league. He also loved singing, enjoyed ballroom dancing, was very interested in weather forecasting and was one of the "local reporters" for meteorologist Dennis Bowman.

Bill was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora. He was also a member of St. John's Men's Club, the Greek Catholic Union and was an usher at his church.

His wife, Margaret Murrin Uram, whom he married Sept. 1, 1940, preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2002. Three brothers, Mitch, John and Nicholas Uram also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, W. William Uram Jr. and Janet Uram of Butler and Margie and Frank Hanratty, also of Butler.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Maxim of Butler and Mrs. Helen Grystar of Lyndora.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ann Campbell of Slippery Rock; four grandchildren, Dawn Uram of Butler, Thomas W. Uram and his wife, Kelly Uram, of Cranberry Township, Melissa Brunecz and her husband, Joe Brunecz, of Willoughby, Ohio, and John Hanratty of State College; five great-grandchildren, Kerry, Shannon, and Ian Uram and Paul and Andrea Brunecz; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

<B>URAM</B> — Friends of W. William Uram, who died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, with Abbot Leo Schlosser, pastor, officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.Parastas services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Geibel Funeral Home.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
