Sister Mary Vincent Schehl

Sister Mary Vincent Schehl, OSF, 88, died Monday at Mount Alvernia, Pittsburgh.

Born Rose Mary Schehl, Dec. 21, 1920, in Butler, she was the daughter of John A. Schehl Jr. and Rose Beer.

She entered the Congregation Sept. 7, 1937, from the St. Peter Parish in Butler.

Sister Mary Vincent was a primary teacher for 50 years in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Sister's love for little children continued when she returned to Mount Alvernia and ministered for seven years at the Mount Alvernia Day Care Center. For the past nine years, sister was part of the prayer ministry in the health care unit, where she often was found "chatting with God."

Sister's 71 years of service to God and his people was dotted by the joyful and cheerful spirit she conveyed to those she encountered.

Surviving are her sisters, Ethel Hinton, Clara Marie Hurley and Diana Sybert; her brother, Raymond; as well nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George and Herbert; and a sister, Joan Hertz.

<B>SCHEHL</B> — Friends of Sister Mary Vincent Schehl, OSF, who died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Alvernia, 146 Hawthorne Road, Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Friday at Mount Alvernia. Burial will be in the Sisters' Cemetery at Mount Alvernia.A wake service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.Vespers will be held at 4:45 p.m. Friday.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Ministry, Foundation or Retirement Fund, 146 Hawthorne Road, Pittsburgh PA 15209.
