Reba Barker Sheavly, 82, of Reisterstown, Md., died Thursday at her home.

Born on April 27, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harold Barker and Lillie Metzger Barker.

She was the wife of William C. Sheavly, her husband of 62 years, who she met on a blind date.

She attended the Glyndon United Methodist Church and was active in the women's Bible study. She attended the University of Akron. She lived for 12 to 13 years in Butler and had lived in Reisterstown since 1971.

She sang with the Candlelighters and was a member of the Glyndon Women's Club, where she sang with the Senior Song Birds. She was a member of the 69th Infantry Division Women's Auxiliary, with whom she traveled with extensively and made six trips to Europe.

In addition, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and she volunteered at Cherrywood Nursing Home. In 2008, after volunteering 1,000 hours, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Thomas of Butler and Ann and Michael Wilmer of Westminster, Pa.; her sons and daughters-in-law, William H. and Seba Sheavly of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark T. and Lynn Sheavly of Reisterstown, Md.; her brother, Dr. Harold Barker of Wilmington, Del.; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Thomas and Jeanne Sheavly of Canadaigua, N.Y., and Betty Barker of Wilmington, Del.; and her grandchildren, Emily Thomas Glaser of Cleveland, Ohio, Sarah Zipf of State College, Rachel Brunswick of Hammond, Ind., Elizabeth, Jessica and John Wilmer, all of Westminster, Jared Wilmer of Richmond, Va., and Brian Sheavly of Towson. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren.

<B>SHEAVLY</B> — The family of Reba Barker Sheavly, who died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A.</B>, 11605 Reisterstown Rd., Owings Mills, Md. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Clyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Rd., Glyndon, Md., with Rev. Norman Obenshain officiating.Private interment will follow Wednesday at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, Md.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Department, 108 Main St., Reisterstown, MD 21136 or to the Glyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Rd., Glyndon, MD 21071.Online condolences may be offered at www.eckhardtfuneralchapel.com.
