Suspect in shooting jailed

SLIGO, Clarion County —- A Piney Township man was arraigned Thursday on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

According to court records, James Leslie Grant, 54, faces those charges after allegedly shooting another man in the leg during an argument.

The arrest stemmed from an incident Wednesday evening at Grant's property at 2197 Shamrock Drive, according to a state police news release.

Two men, who have not been named, began arguing inside an apartment above the garage. When the dispute moved out of the apartment and into the driveway, Grant reportedly tried to intervene, according to the news release.

Then "words were exchanged" between Grant and another man, who is identified only as a relative to Ben David Paulden, 50, of Sligo.

That man reportedly left, and a few minutes later Paulden arrived.

According to the release, Paulden and Grant argued, and Paulden hit Grant in the head with a "blunt object."

Grant then walked away. However, he returned and shot Paulden one time in a leg, according to the news release.

Paulden drove himself to Clarion Hospital. From there he was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Grant was placed in the Clarion County Jail, unable to post $65,000 bail.
