Joseph M. Nemcek
Joseph M. Nemcek, 87, of Grandview Boulevard died Wednesday evening at his home.
Born Nov. 4, 1922, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late John and Valeria (Srobar) Nemcek.
He was a unit operator in the north processing department for the Armco Steel Plant in Butler for 44 years, until his retirement in March 1985.
A veteran of World War II, he had served with the Army in Europe, where he earned five battle stars, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and also for ground combat. This gave him a silver star on his European Theatre Medal.
He was a former member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, and was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora.
He also was a member of the Armco Veterans Club, the Slovak Sokol Society, the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, the VFW post 249 in Butler, the AARP, and the Tanglewood Senior Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Lexie Ann Nemcek of Naples, Fla.; three sons, Joseph Nemcek, and his wife, Judy, of Winter Garden, Fla., James Nemcek and his wife, Karen, of Pittsburgh, and Terry Nemcek and his wife, Sally, of New Brighton; two grandchildren, Melanie Stewart, and her husband, Nick, of Orlando, Fla., and Dwight Nemcek and his wife, Carmen, of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Daphney Nemcek; and a sister, Mrs. Marie Kelly of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann (Huff) Nemcek, who died Aug. 24, 2008; two brothers and three sisters.
<B>Nemcek</B> — Friends of Joseph M. Nemcek, who died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. George Palick will officiate.Burial will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
