John W. Petsinger

John W. "Jack" Petsinger, 87, of Thornwood Drive, Butler, died at 4:06 p.m. Saturday at his home.

Born June 23, 1922, in Butler, he was the son of the late Harry M. Petsinger Sr. and the late Bertha Catherine Smith.

Mr. Petsinger was a member of the First English Lutheran Church.

He retired as a safety inspector and safety adviser for Butler Armco after 60 years.

Mr. Petsinger was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 40 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in 1942 and obtained an honorary discharge in 1946 as a second class gunners mate. He served on a merchant ship in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters and in the oceans off Africa and Asia and the Indian Ocean. Mr. Petsinger also served as a second class gunners mate on an L.S.T. landing ship during the Okinawa invasion of 1945.

Mr. Petsinger is survived by his daughter, Mrs. John (Carol Lynn) Grystar of Butler; his son, Gary John Petsinger of Butler; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and by a brother, James L. Petsinger.

Mr. Petsinger was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. (Hindman) Petsinger, who died Nov. 16, 1997. One son, William M. Petsinger; a sister, Mary Ann Napora; and by two brothers, Robert "Bob" Petsinger and Harry M. Petsinger, also preceded him in death.

<B>PETSINGER </B>— Friends of John W. "Jack" Petsinger, who died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James W. Dollhopf of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in the North Side Cemetery.Members of the VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778 will conduct military honors.By the request of Jack, memorial donations may be made to the First English Lutheran Church, 214 N.
