County adopts budget
The Butler County commissioners this morning adopted a 2010 budget of $177 million that does not increase property taxes.
Commissioner James Kennedy credited county staff working on the budget with keeping taxes level.
A projected influx of new savings and revenue will help bolster county coffers.
The county retirement board earlier this month took advantage of a new state law enabling a lower contribution into the employee pension fund.
The switch is expected to save $1.4 million while maintaining a surplus in the fund.
Another $500,000 or more is expected to be realized from housing state inmates in the South Washington Street prison.
