Joseph C. Getty

Joseph C. Getty, 95, of Main Street, Emlenton, died at 1:35 a.m. Monday at Golden Living in Shippenville.

Mr. Getty was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Saltsburg. He was the son of Clarence and Elizabeth Coleman Getty.

He attended St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton with his late wife, Kathleen.

He was a life member of the Emlenton Rod and Gun Club and the Franklin Elks Club.

He was an avid deer and turkey hunter, who especially enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp in Marienville. He also enjoyed picking up the mail for several of his neighbors.

He had been employed in the Sterling Division of Quaker State Refining Corp. in Emlenton. Mr. Getty was a truck driver and delivered gasoline to many gas stations. He had been employed there for 32 years and retired in 1976.

Mr. Getty was married to the former Kathleen A. Edwards on June 9, 1945, at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2004.

Surviving are two nieces and their husbands, Heather and Blane Neely of Parker and Holly and Paul Archer of Grove City; a nephew and his wife, Sam and Jean Scott of Zionsville; a sister-in law, Grace Thompson of Canton, Mass.; two brothers-in-law, Tim Edwards of Grove City and Bob Edwards of Upper Montclair, N.J.; as well as a number of other nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, Mr. Getty was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" and his wife, M.E. "Betty" Getty; and a sister, Helen Scott and her husband, Joe. Mr. Getty also was preceded in death by the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dick and Betty Edwards, Leo and Thil Edwards, Kay Edwards, Theresa Edwards and Bill Thompson.

<B>GETTY</B> — Friends of Joseph C. Getty, who died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Monsignor Jan C. Olowin, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Emlenton, officiating.
