William E. Schraf

Schraf

William E. Schraf, 77, of Butler died early Monday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 13, 1932, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Robert and Margaret Hoelzle Schraf.

He attended St. Mary Catholic Elementary School and Altoona Catholic High School. He was a graduate of the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.

Bill was the owner and pharmacist of the Chicora Drug Store and retired in 1991.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Center Township, the PITT Golden Panthers, the American Legion, an associate member of the Brady Paul Lodge F.O.P. and a member and past exulted ruler of the Butler Elks Lodge 170.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he had served during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Rerko Schraf, who he married Aug. 30, 1958; a son, Mark Schraf and his wife, Jeanne, of Morgantown, W.Va.; three daughters, Lynn Schraf and her husband, David Gilbreath, of Pittsburgh, Leslie Dudik (Mrs. John) of Apollo, and Allison Schraf and her husband, Jim Nelson, of New York; six grandchildren, Ben, Josh and Eileen Dudik, Morgan Gilbreath, and Zachary and Kaylee Schraf; two brothers, Paul (Laverne) Schraf of Beaver Falls and Robert Schraf of Latrobe.

His sister, Alma Yingling, is deceased.

<B>SCHRAF</B> — Friends of William E. Schraf, who died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Center Township. The Rev. James Salberg, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Ceremonial Honor Guard of the VFW Butler Post 249 and the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.Members of Elks Club 170 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home for a memorial service.Additional information can be found and condolence messages placed at wwww.geibelfuneralhome.com.
