Drug abuse session slated at Freeport

FREEPORT — Jeanne Troy, director of development and communications for Drug Free Pennsylvania, will present a session designed to reduce substance abuse in children through effective parental communication at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Freeport Junior High School auditorium.

Drug Free Pennsylvania is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides training to raise awareness and prevent substance abuse.

District Judge Gary DeComo and state police officials also will participate in the Straight Talk for Working Parents workshop, which will educate parents on how to talk to children in kindergarten through 12th grade about substance abuse.

Speakers will discuss the most commonly used drugs, including their appearance and effects. Parents also will be informed on what to look for if they suspect drug use.

Door prizes will be given out. For more information, call Troy at 717-232-0300 or junior high Principal Don Dell at 724-295-9020.
