Gertrude Marie Hattz

Gertrude Marie Hattz, 79, of Bonniebrook Road, Butler, died at 5:25 a.m. Thursday at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born March 9, 1930, in Summit Township, she was the daughter of the late William Albert and Margaret Louise Roshiesen Yost.

Mrs. Hattz was a line worker at Penn Champ in East Butler, retiring in 1993. She also was a "domestic diva" who loved housecleaning. She was a presser for several Butler dry cleaners, Fisher's, Hutchinson's and Frank Cicco Cleaners.

Mrs. Hattz was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active with Katie's Kitchen and Meals on Wheels.

She was an avid bowler; she loved playing cards; she was a former scout leader; and she was a member of the local Moose club. Her particular interests were caring for her five beautiful daughters, cooking and canning, gardening, and bowling. She was a patron of the arts and a country western music fan.

Mrs. Hattz is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann and her husband, Gil, Steighner of Rimersburg, Kathleen Marie Carothers, Eileen Michele and her husband, Michael, Collins, Lenore Elaine and her husband, Tim, Reges, and Beverly Diane and her husband, Dale, Hobaugh all of Butler; 12 grandchildren, Michele Mascetta, Gilbert Steighner, Melissa Savannah, Maria Fisher, Megan Davis, Tiffani McGann, Curtis Carothers, Nicole Zirnsak, Timothy and Travis Reges, Amber and Aaron Hobaugh; eight great-grandchildren, Ian Steighner, Mariah and R. J. Mascetta, Liam and Tighe Fisher, Everett Reges, Jackson Zirnsak, and Layla McGann; a brother, William Albert Yost; a sister, Betty Catherine Swidzinski; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hattz was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Hattz, who she married June 3, 1950, and who died Sept. 16, 1985. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Ida Hydak.

<B>HATTZ</B> — Friends of Gertrude Marie Hattz, who died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler. The Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Rev. Richard Leseganich of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cranberry Township will officiate.Burial will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.
