Richard L. Hackett, 79, of Butler passed away at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 8, 1930, in Lyndora, the son of the late Victor Hackett and the late Julia (Paganelli) Hackett.

He retired from the pipe shop at Armco Steel after 33 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Windhambay. He was a life member of VFW Post 249 and also a member of Lyndora American Legion Post 778.

He was an avid fisherman and a military history buff, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Margie" Hackett, who he married March 23, 1955; two daughters, Kristine "Krissie" and her husband, Larry Constantine of Uniontown, and Vicki Kellerman of Butler; three grandchildren, Michael and Joshua Kellerman and Angela Constantine; two great-grandchildren, Makenna Kelly and Kaleigh Cook; and a sister, Mercedes Wilson of Butler.

He also was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Hackett.

<B>HACKETT</B> — Friends of Richard L. Hackett, who died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 until time of service at 8 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
