Richard L. "Dick" Hackett, 79, of Butler passed away at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 8, 1930, in Lyndora, the son of the late Victor Hackett and the late Julia (Paganelli) Hackett.

Richard was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School.

A four-year veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Windham Bay. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 249 and also a member of Lyndora American Legion Post 778.

Richard was an avid fisherman, a writer of poetry, a military history buff and enjoyed researching the history of his family tree. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Margie" (Rettig) Hackett, whom he married March 23, 1955; two daughters, Kristine "Krissie" Constantine and her husband, Larry, of Uniontown and Vicki Kellerman of Butler; two grandsons, Michael Kellerman of Butler and Joshua Kellerman, who is currently working in Iraq; one granddaughter, Angela Constantine of Uniontown; two great-granddaughters, Makenna Kellerman and Kayleigh Cook; and a sister, Mercedes (Hackett) Wilson of Butler.

He also was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Hackett.

<B>HACKETT</B> — Friends of Richard L. "Dick" Hackett, who died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until time of service at 8 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. A military ritual will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home by the VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778.
