Clair W. Vandevort
Clair W. Vandevort, 81, of Harmony died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 17, 1928, in Wexford, he was the son of the late William Gibson and Bernice Palm Vandevort.
Mr. Vandevort had been a welder at the Beaver Advance Corp. in Ellwood City, and he retired from Simons Aerials Inc.
He served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to December 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
He was a member of the Polish White Eagles, the SOI Club, and the Hungarian Club in Ellwood City.
He liked to fish, repair old lawn mowers and go boating.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Griggle Vandevort, who he married Sept. 29, 1950.
He also is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law and three sons and daughters-in-law, Mrs. Dianne Gebrosky and her husband, Lee, of Grove City, Mrs. Denise Street and her husband, Bill, of Harmony, Mrs. Donna Lample and her husband, Martin, of Enon Valley, Mr. Dale Vandevort and his wife, Maureen, of Harmony, Mr. Dallas Vandevort and his wife, Deborah, of Harmony and Mr. Dean Vandevort and his wife, Shannon, of Ellwood City; a brother, Mr. Robert Vandevort of Bowie, Md.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Vandevort of Cranberry Township; a sister, Betty Harshall of Harmony; and two grandsons, Jacob Lample and Jason Gebrosky.

Vandevort, who died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services</B>, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Shaffer officiating.
