SLIPPERY ROCK — Former Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout Troy Mild will be honored at halftime of the SRU-Edinboro men's game Saturday at Morrow Field House.
Mild graduated from The Rock in 1984 and is the program's No. 2 all-time scorer with 1,851 points. He ranks eighth all-time with 792 rebounds.
Mild's teams qualified for the PSAC Tournament three consecutive years. He averaged 21.6 points per game his senior season. A reception for Mild will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Morrow Field House.'
The Rock will honor Bill Rausch, the program's fourth-leading all-time scorer, during its Feb. 20 game vs. Clarion.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Brandon Hunt to be their pro scouting director following the departure of Doug Whaley, who became the Buffalo Bills' assistant general manager.Hunt joined the Steelers in 2005 and spent two seasons as an intern in their player personnel department. He became a pro scout for the Houston Texans in 2007.Hunt was a four-year starting offensive lineman at Division II Indiana (Pa.) University from 2000-03, and was named to the all-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team at guard.
PITTSBURGH — Pitt plays at Utah in a Sept. 2 season opener and is scheduled for three Thursday games, plus a Friday game against rival West Virginia.New Hampshire on Sept. 11 was originally scheduled as Pitt's season opener, but Utah was moved up so it can be televised. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.Team spokeswoman Shelly Poe confirms that Pryor had what she calls routine surgery. She says it will require only minimal rehabilitation and if the Buckeyes had a game next week, Pryor would be available to play.
