Ernest Eugene Moore, 88, of Eyth Road, Butler, died at 3:55 p.m. Saturday at the VA Butler Healthcare.

Born Nov. 22, 1921, in Russellton, he was the son of the late Harvey Andrew Moore and Lillian Barbara Heist.

Dr. Moore was a graduate of Butler High School; Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned his bachelor's degree, and the University of Cincinnati Medical School, where he earned his doctorate of medicine. He completed an internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and went on to be a captain in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Dr. Moore began his career as a well-known and well-loved family physician in the Butler area in 1950 with a private practice in family medicine. In 1985, he became a partner in the Critical Care Association and in 1994 joined Butler Medical Associates, where he retired in 2000.

Dr. Moore was a life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the Board of Family Practice, a life member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and a member and past president of the Butler County Medical Society, serving two terms as president. He was certified as a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice, a past president of the American Cancer Society and a past member of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.

Until he became disabled, "Doc's" interests were medicine, gardening, tennis, golf, skiing, reading, playing bridge and his family.

Dr. Moore was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Moore is survived by his wife, Sally "Sarah" Moore of Butler, who he married Aug. 5, 1972. In addition, he is survived by six sons, Dr. E. Eugene Moore and his wife, Dr. Sarah Moore, of Denver, Colo., Dr. John B. Moore and his wife, Debbie, of Denver, Colo.; Dr. Fred A. Moore and his wife, Paula, of Fulshear, Texas, Jeffrey P. Leslie and his wife, Dr. Renee Kottenhahn, of Wilmington, Del., Gregory S. Leslie and his wife, Maria Stetzer Leslie, of O'Fallon, Mo., and Bradley D. Leslie and his wife, Susan Perry Leslie, of Butler; four daughters, Kathleen A. Hanners and her husband, Dr. Chris Hanners, of Chillicothe, Ohio, Deborah L. Grant and her husband, David Grant, of Gibsonia, Theresa J. Otto and her husband, Dave Otto, of Denver, Colo., and Dawn K. Roccki of Butler; 21 grandchildren, Hunter and Peter Moore, Jessica and Travis Moore, Kaitie and Ian Moore, Sophia and Charlotte Leslie, Alison and Nicole Leslie, Sarah and David Leslie, Noah and Dr. Emily Hanners, Logan and Jonathan Aal, Isaac Hanners, Abby, Ben and Emily Grant, Molly and Mason Otto and Hannah Roccki; two brothers, Dr. Leroy Moore of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Harvey Moore of Butler; six nieces; and 14 nephews.

Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Burroughs; and by a brother, Dr. Lincoln Moore of Columbus, Ohio.

<B>MOORE</B> — A memorial service for Ernest Eugene Moore, who died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Merry H. Meloy, of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E.
