County families at rink at time of collapse
Several Butler County families were at the Rostraver Ice Garden in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, Sunday afternoon when part of its roof collapsed.
Christina Thrash of Meridian was in the front row of the stands waiting for her son and his ice hockey team, the Butler Valley Dawgs, to take the ice.
Seven-year-old Ben Thrash was in the rink's locker room, which is under a restaurant and a bar area, preparing for the game.
When the Zamboni ice cleaning machine stopped and the driver hopped off and went to talk to people, Thrash said this morning that she thought something was wrong.
She searched out her husband, Eric, who was preparing to officiate the game. Then someone shouted for them to evacuate the building, she said.
They all got out OK.
The son of Chris Jackson of Penn Township also is on the team. They too both got out of the collapsed building without any problem.
No one was injured, and the cause of the roof collapse hadn't been determined.
