Thomas E. Watson

Thomas E. Watson, 89, of Wurtemburg passed away Friday at his residence.

Born in Wurtemburg, Jan. 18, 1921, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Florence Alma Hines Watson.

A graduate of Slippery Rock High School, he also attended Slippery Rock College.

He was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church.

A veteran of World War II, Tom served as an intercept operator with the 2nd Signal Battalion in the European Theater. He was awarded the Certificate of Merit.

Tom was a past president of the Eagle Coin Club of Ellwood City. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid philatelist.

He retired from Aetna Standard in 1986, where he worked as a fitter/welder.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Berkihiser of North Sewickley Township and Patricia and Joseph A. Tomon Jr. of Ellport; four grandchildren and their spouses, Brett and Kelly Berkihiser, Brooke and Robert Miller, Jennifer Tomon and Shawn VanGorder and Elizabeth "Betsy" Bennett; six great-grandchildren, Jackson and Burke Miller, Brendan and Emma Berkihiser, Lynden Beinhauer and Blake Bennett; two sisters, Norma Laughner of Cabot and Louise and Jack Houpt of St. Thomas, Pa.; a brother, Robert "Pete" and Isabelle Watson of Slippery Rock; and a sister-in-law, Irene Watson, also of Slippery Rock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret Hulick, who he married Oct. 6, 1942; a son-in-law, George Berkihiser; a brother, John A. Watson; and a sister, Ruth, in infancy.

<B>WATSON</B> — Friends of Thomas E. Watson, who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>JOSEPH A. TOMON JR. FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY</B>, 97 Grim Ave., Ellport. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
