Warehouse fire closes major Pittsburgh street
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police have closed a major Pittsburgh street this morning because of fears that a warehouse may collapse due to an overnight fire.
Firefighters were called to the scene on West Carson Street about 3:20 a.m. today. The vacant warehouse has been abandoned for about 20 years.
No injuries have been reported in the fire which was being investigated by the Allegheny County fire marshal.
The front part of the warehouse includes a four-story brick building that police say is the most imminent threat to collapse. Carson Street carries rush hour traffic into and out of the city's South Side between the Fort Pitt and West End bridges.
The road will remain closed until crews figure out how to safely raze the building.
