Richard 'Lefty' Roberts

Richard H. "Lefty" Roberts Sr., 82, of Butler died Saturday at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born Oct. 25, 1927, in Arnold, Pa., he was the son of Elmer and Sadie Duncan Roberts.

He served in the U.S. Army in Europe immediately following World War II.

He worked as a line operator for the U.S. Steel Sintering plant for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He had previously worked at Allegheny Ludlum.

He was a member of the Cabot United Methodist Church.

He was an avid Penguins and Steelers fan. He enjoyed camping, hunting, metal detecting and bowling.

Surviving are his wife, Charlene Ewing, who he married on March 18, 1960; three sons, Kent (Lucy) Roberts of Saxonburg, Richard H. (Lori) Roberts Jr. of Saxonburg and Ryan H. (Tracie) Roberts of Saxonburg; and his daughter, Rochelle (Bruce) Harbison of Butler.

Also surviving are his brother, Harold Roberts of Johnstown; his sister, Jean McDermott of Sarver; and 11 grandchildren, Gwynne Roberts, Joshua Harbison, Shanon (Brad) Young, Allyson, Lacey, Mason and Madison Roberts, Brooke Young, Jeff Foster, Maddi Lynn and Ben Thoma.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.

<B>Roberts</B> — Friends of Richard H. "Lefty" Roberts Sr., who died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, Saxonburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Judd officiating.
