Mich. man dead after killing 1 officer, wounding another
JACKSON, Mich. — Authorities said a man who fatally shot one police officer and wounded another was killed during a shootout this morning in south-central Michigan.
Undersheriff Tom Finco said Jackson police officer James Bonneau, 26, was shot early this morning and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Finco said Blackman Township Public Safety Officer Darrin McIntosh, 22, was wounded and underwent surgery for a non-life-threatening injury. His condition was not immediately known.
Officials said the two officers entered a home belonging to Elvin Potts, 63, of Jackson, a city about 70 miles west of Detroit, about 12:30 a.m.
Police said Potts revealed a handgun and shot at the officers three times. One officer returned fire, killing Potts.
No further information was released.
