Man charged in death of man found in tattoo parlor basement

BUTLER TWP — Butler Township police today filed murder charges against Kevin Edward Campbell, the owner of a Lyndora tattoo parlor, for the death of Shawn Michael Murphey, who was 24 when he died Christmas Eve 2008.

Campbell, who was arraigned at District Judge Kevin O'Donnell's office, is charged with first-, second-, and third-degree murder, robbery, theft and abuse of a corpse.

Murphey's body was wrapped in a tarpaulin in the basement of the building that housed the tattoo parlor.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive behind the killing. Police think Campbell stole between $200 and $2,000 from Murphey.

Cambell, who is 35, has been in the Butler County Prison on an unrelated case.
