BUFFALO TWP — Freeport High senior Alex Isenberg was named one of four winners of $5,000 WPIAL Scholar Athlete scholarship awards.

Isenberg, Mark Ross of Hopewell, Alexa Sarsfield of Springdale and Morgan Sharick of Burrell received the honors.

Among those picking up $500 scholarships as runners-up are Logan Renwick of Butler, and Ryan McKenzie and Samantha Brandon of Mars.

PITTSBURGH — New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes acknowledged taking missteps during his four-season Steelers career, but said Thursday in a message on his website he is looking forward to a "clean start" with his new team.The former Ohio State player was held out for one game by the Steelers in 2008 after police said they detected marijuana in his car. He was recently sued by a woman in Florida who said he threw a glass at her in a nightclub."I have made some mistakes in my past that I am not proud of, but the most important thing is that I have learned from them," Holmes said.Holmes was recently cast off by the Steelers for a fifth-round draft pick.Holmes, the MVP of the Steelers' Super Bowl victory over Arizona in February 2009, called his time in Pittsburgh "memorable" and thanked Jets fans for welcoming him.
