Anne Phillips
Anne (Gazetos) Phillips, 95, passed away after a brief illness in the early hours on Wednesday. She had been residing at the assisted living facility Concordia at the Orchard for the last several years. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff of Concordia and Good Samaritan Hospice, who both provided such excellent care to Anne, especially over the last few months.
Anne was born July 15, 1914, in Butler to a first-generation Greek American family. Her parents were Nicholas Gazetos, an entrepreneur who for a time owned and operated a local candy store, and Irene (Anderson) Gazetos. She attended local Butler schools.
After she was married, Anne moved to Albany, N.Y., where she was employed by the state of New York until her retirement in 1979.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, William Phillips; and her two brothers, John N. Gazetos, a local Butler attorney and G. James Gazetos, an educator.
Survivors include her niece, Irene G. Callahan and her husband, Dr. James Callahan, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two nephews, Peter G. Gazetos and his spouse, Susan O. Gazetos, of Queensbury, N.Y., and Nicholas J. Gazetos and his spouse, Melanie P. O'Brien, of Bethel, Conn., as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives, all of whom will miss her greatly.
<B>PHILLIPS</B> — Calling hours for Anne (Gazetos) Phillips, who died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at <B>YOUNG FUNERAL HOME LTD.</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. A prayer of trisagion will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.
