Margaret Fisher Bishop, of San Marcos, Texas, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010. She was 89 years of age.

Margaret, also known as Margo or Maime to her friends and family, was born in Butler, in 1921 to John C. and Irene Negley Fisher. In 1928 she moved with her family to Harlingen, Texas. After graduating from Harlingen High School in 1937, and from the University of Texas in 1941, she moved to Brownsville, Texas, to teach school.

She married Sherwood Bishop in Brownsville and had three children, Sheran, Sherwood, and Janice Paige. In 1949 the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Margo resumed her career as an educator, eventually becoming a high school counselor and vice principal. In Houston she was a charter member of the Houston Chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Margo retired from Houston School District in 1981 and lived on her brother Felix Fisher's ranch in Hunt, Texas. until moving to San Marcos in 1996 to be near her children.

Margo had an insatiable curiosity, and an irrepressible desire to know about almost every subject. She was particularly known for her love of animals and delightful sense of humor.

Margo was preceded in death by her husband; her three sisters, Jane Corris, Kathryn Gossett and Barbara Grimm; and her brother, Felix Fisher. She is survived by her three children, Sheran Seif, Sherwood Bishop and Janice Paige Bishop and her grandson, Dylan Hiroms. She also leaves her nieces Irene Womack, Felicia Dobbs, and nephews John Fisher, Byron Gossett and Bruce Gossett, as well as many grand nieces and nephews and their families.
