NEW WILMINGTON — Seneca Valley graduate Nate Herrmann play basketball at Westminster College.

Herrmann was a four-year letterman with the Raiders. The son of Ron and Mary Ellen Herrmann, he plans to major in biology.

BEAVER FALLS — Ryan Prokay of Grove City carded a 66-69-135 to win the overall boys title at the 2010 Tri-State Junior PGA Championship held Wednesday at Fox Run Golf Club.Prokay also won the boys 16-to-18 age division by six strokes over Daniel Maier of Irwin.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — St. Jude Golf Club member Sean Knapp lost in the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links, which was held at Bryant Park Golf and Conference Center.The Oakmont resident lost a 145-144, stroke-play decision to Chase Wright of Muncie, Ind.

PHILADELPHIA — The NCAA is bringing the men's college hockey championships to Pennsylvania for back-to-back Frozen Fours.The Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee said Tuesday Pittsburgh will host the 2013 Frozen Four at Consol Energy Center, while the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia will be the venue for the 2014 championship.Consol, set to open next month, is the home ice for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Wachovia Center, home of the Flyers, is no stranger to hosting NCAA tourneys, including the first and second rounds of the 2006 Division I men's basketball tournament.It will be the first time the NCAA Division I hockey championships will be played in the Keystone State.

AKRON, Ohio — An Ohio woman who paid $5 at a yard sale for a LeBron James pendant she thought was costume jewelry has found out it's worth nearly $10,000.Vaneisha Robinson, 20, said Wednesday she used to wear the basketball jersey-shaped pendant to high school when she didn't know its value. Then she had it appraised.The International Gemological Institute says Robinson's find is the real deal. Gemologist Jerry Ehrenwald says the 14-karat white gold pendant sports more than 2 carats of diamonds.The No. 23 jersey reads "King" on the front and "James" on the back.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson retired abruptly as the Commodores' head coach for what he called personal reasons.Vice Chancellor David Williams announced the news in a post on the university's athletic website just before a news conference Wednesday. Minutes later, the 59-year-old Johnson stepped up to a podium and said he was retiring from college football.Johnson called it a very difficult decision but one not prompted by health concerns for either himself or his wife.

SECAUCUS, N.J. — French forward Thierry Henry is joining the New York Red Bulls of MLS.The 32-year-old former Arsenal and Barcelona player signed a multiyear contract and is expected to make his Red Bulls debut on July 22 in an exhibition against Premier League club Tottenham.
