Mascia

Mary L. Mascia, 94, of the Townhouse Apartments, Butler, died peacefully at her residence early Tuesday morning.

She was born in Bedford, Bedford County, Oct. 28, 1915, a daughter of the late Giochino "Jack" and Antonia Lampo.

Mrs. Mascia had lived in Altoona, Pittsburgh and Munster, Ind., and came to Butler 28 years ago.

A member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian, she was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Altoona.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family, working crossword puzzles and walking.

She was the widow of Eugene J. Mascia. They had married Oct. 28, 1937, in Altoona, and he died Nov. 3, 1982. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia "Patti" Mascia; two sisters; and two brothers.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Jack E. Mascia and his wife, Janet, of Meridian; two grandsons, David E. Mascia of Mount Pleasant and Christopher J. Mascia of Phoenix, Ariz.; a great-granddaughter, Avery Lee Mascia; a sister, Emily DeBernardis of Altoona; and three nieces, Carol Lewis, Janet Damin and Linda Centry.

<B>MASCIA </B>— Friends of Mary L. Mascia, who died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona. The Rev. Frank Scornaienchi, T.O.R., will officiate.
