Elizabeth Herold Shaffer, 92, formerly of Mount Chestnut, passed away Wednesday morning at Concordia at Cabot, where she had been a resident for seven years.

She was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Harmony and was the daughter of Francis and Alda Varner Herold.

She was a life member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Butler, where she had belonged to the Naomi Circle, the Friendly Bible Class, Three-T and the Altar Guild. She also had participated in many projects of the church.

She enjoyed eating out, playing cards, sewing, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

She attended the Mount Chestnut Senior Center, the Thursday Morning Herold Family Breakfast and the Thursday Afternoon Luncheon Card Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith K. Raisley of Prospect; her grandchildren, Constance Shaffer, Larry (Nancy) Shaffer and Bryan Shaffer, all of Virginia, Vicki (Jeff) Foley of Florida and Keri Raisley (John) Hays of Prospect; six great-grandchildren; Kyle, Alexis, Chase, Nate, Andrew and Emma; two brothers, James Herold and Karl Herold, both of Butler; one sister, Ardith (Robert) Hay of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie E. Shaffer, who passed away Jan. 20, 1978; and one son, Ronald D. Shaffer, who passed away June 17, 2002.

<B>SHAFFER</B> — Visitation for Elizabeth Herold Shaffer, who died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Butler, with Kay Wharton, the Christian education director and Aaron minister of the church, and the Rev. Gary Brown, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Please meet at the church for the funeral service.
