Company fined for gas well spill
WILLIAMSPORT, — Pennsylvania officials have fined a New York company more than $15,000 for a spill of drilling fluids at a natural gas well in Pennsylvania.
The Department of Environmental Protection today said it had fined Talisman Energy USA of Horseheads, N.Y., $15,506 for the November spill at the Klein gas well in Troy. Officials say the spill of fluids used in the fracturing process polluted a small waterway.
Officials say between 4,200 and 6,300 gallons of the fluid spilled when a pump failed and sand collected in a valve. The fluids ended up in a tributary to Webier Creek, which drains into the Tioga River.
The company cleaned up the spill following protocols set up by state officials.
