INDIANA, Pa. — Sean Knapp, a member of St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora, tied for second at the USGA Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Indiana Country Club Thursday.

Knapp, a resident of Oakmont, fired rounds of 67 and 71 for a 138 that tied him with Anthony DeGol of Hollidaysburg and Matt Moot of Johnstown.

The trio finished one stroke behind William Miller of Venetia (67-70-137).

LOS ANGELES — A baseball fan participating in Mormon Community Night at Dodger Stadium has died after collapsing on the field during batting practice.Officials say Don Hawkins was standing near the third-base coach's box Thursday night when he fell ill.Hawkins was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital at after paramedics performed CPR, but was pronounced dead. There was no word on the cause of death.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Motor Speedway will host just one NASCAR Sprint Cup race in 2011.The track announced Thursday it will hold a 500-mile Cup race at the track on Labor Day weekend next year. It marks the first time since the track opened in 1960 that it will not host two Cup events in a season.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The NCAA accused West Virginia's football program of five major and one secondary rules violations from 2005 to 2009, including under former coach Rich Rodriguez.The allegations released Thursday allege student managers, graduate assistants and others worked with football players on their skills and techniques in violation of NCAA limits. The alleged violations occurred during both under Rodriguez and current coach Bill Stewart.The allegations say both Rodriguez and Stewart failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance. The NCAA made similar accusations against Rodriguez during an earlier, separate investigation at Michigan.West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck says WVU has fully cooperated with the NCAA.
