Lorraine Fonson Stoner, 92, of New Castle, formerly of Butler, died Friday afternoon at Jameson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was named Bronse Fedder at her birth on April 14, 1918, to Michael and Bronse Fedder, of Leechburg. Her mother died just eight months later while ministering to the sick during the influenza pandemic of 1918.

She was later adopted by Paul C. Fonson and Helen Fonson of Butler and given the name of Lorraine Fonson.

Lorraine began her career in retail as a buyer of infant and children's wear at the W.J. Offutt Co. in Butler. After that store was destroyed by fire, she went to work for Montgomery Ward and Davidson Department Store in Des Moines, Iowa, as a department manager. She retired from Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh after 20 years as a supervisor.

She was a member of Saint Vitus Roman Catholic Church in New Castle.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Susan) Boyle of New Castle; two sons, Anthony Stoner and his wife, Lynda, of New Castle, and David M. Stoner, of Hermitage; a brother, Leo Fedder of Leechburg; and two sisters, Stella Romanick and Helen Kulick, both of Leechburg.

She also is survived by two very loving and devoted nieces, Mrs. Donald (Phyllis) Lane of Butler, and Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Shelenberger of New Wilmington; several nieces and nephews; several grandchildren; and 14 godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony P. Stoner Sr.; a daughter, Mrs. Carmen (Toni Marie) Pezzone; two sons, Frank A. Stoner and William B. Stoner; two sisters, Leona Fedder and Lucy Clements; and five brothers, Ferdinand Fonson, Paul Fonson, John Fedder, Mike Fedder and Tony Krowski.

<B>STONER — </B>Friends of Lorraine Fonson Stoner, who died Friday, July 2, 2010, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the <B>MARTIN FUNERAL HOME,</B> 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue, Butler, with the Rev. James Dolan, pastor, officiating.The Bereavement Group of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 4 p.m. today to conduct a scriptural wake service.
