Julia Sychak Halasi

Julia Sychak Halasi, 97, formerly of Lyndora, died Sunday at the Chicora Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Butler, a daughter of the late Wallace and Anna (Dano) Sychak.

Julia was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora. She had loved to walk, cook and go bowling.

Surviving are her son, Steve L. Halasi Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson, Jeffrey S. Halasi and his wife, Karen, of Zanesville, Ohio; a granddaughter, Sherry L. (Halasi) Stryker and her husband, Buzz, of Sacramento, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Jordan J., Ryan C. and Alex M. Halasi and Isabella L., Brooke N. and Nicole J. Stryker; a brother, Pete Sychak and his wife, Martha, of Butler; a sister, Helen Galida of Lyndora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve L. Halasi, who died Aug. 3, 1967; five brothers, Nick, Michael, Wallace, John and Andy Sychak; and two sisters, Ann Brookhart and Rose Nemcek.

<B>HALASI</B> — Family and friends of Julia Sychak Halasi, who died Sunday, July 4, 2010, will gather from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert F. Oravetz, pastor of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Avenue, Lyndora, PA 16045.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
