William H. Schmidt
William Henry Schmidt, 88, of Butler passed away Saturday at Autumn Grove Nursing Home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late William Henry and Marie (Zeigler) Schmidt.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
He was from the Nixon area on Route 8 South, where the barn from the farm where he lived is still standing.
He was known to the staff at VA Butler Healthcare as "SOB" (Sweet Old Bill).
He was a high-lift operator for Robbie Phillips, his good friend.
He was an honest, hardworking man who enjoyed going to Ponderosa every Friday.
Surviving are his wife, Eva Mae (Croop) Schmidt, whom he married June 7, 1945; three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Barbara Ann) Geyer of Butler, Dorothy Craig of Stoneboro and Mrs. Bill (Alice Jean) Okeson of Butler; a son, William and Pattee Schmidt of Butler; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Lee Grabe; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; five sisters; and two brothers.
